"True Ties That Bind"

Family links are the strongest bond
That may be true most of the time
But thank Heaven for the caring friends
For those are the true ties that bind

Looking back at the kin folk that you loved
And the memories embedded deep in your mind
You'll always remember the closeness then
But true friends are the ties that bind

How devastated a heart can feel
With relatives coast to coast
The ones that you grew up with
Not there when needed the most

Friends are the family we choose for ourselves
Who are trusting, loving and kind
As family bonds loosen for reasons unknown
Close friends are the true ties that bind
